What to Buy on Dhanteras
Dhanteras is traditionally the day to buy something new for the home — gold, silver, utensils and puja essentials are all considered auspicious. If you are shopping online this year, start with the puja itself: a good thali, fresh diyas, idols of Lakshmi and Ganesha, a coin for the puja, and a complete samagri kit so nothing is left to the last minute. The five picks below are all available on Flipkart and are ideal for Dhanteras 2026.
Dhanteras Puja Steps in Brief
- Clean the home and the puja area, and set up the puja thali with diyas, roli, rice, flowers and sweets.
- Place the Lakshmi and Ganesha idols, along with any new item or coin bought for Dhanteras, on the thali.
- Light the diyas during the evening muhurat and offer flowers, sweets and prayers to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha.
- Light the Yama Deepam in the evening, as per tradition, and complete the puja with aarti.
